Slow Fashion Brand for Women and Men
ABOUT THE CEO/FOUNDER
Hello! I’m Nysha King. I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and moved to San Antonio, Texas when Hurricane Katrina happened in 2005 and my family decided to stay.
I fell in love with fashion when my Uncle convinced me to attend a sewing class at my church. I gave the class a shot and I fell in love with it and I did not know if it was because of my teacher (she is great and a huge thank you to her for starting the sewing class) and/or if I genuinely loved it. While I was in high school, I took a mentorship class. I asked the fashion design teacher to be my mentor. I was able to participate in a fashion show in high school because of the mentorship class. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer. It just made me feel so happy and I enjoyed the whole process of putting together my designs.
I was then accepted to The University of the Incarnate Word. I graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design and a minor in Business Management. During my time at UIW I took a course in Sustainability and it made me begin to think what I can do to help the fashion industry not be the highest industry contributing to CO2 emissions.
I like to design with the Earth in mind, and I’ve prioritized eco-conscious design. I source cotton-blend, and/or linen material, thrifted materials and deadstock materials. My design style now focuses on timeless, business-casual pieces, emphasizing craftsmanship and sustainability.
